Dries Vandamme graduated from the Bioscience engineering faculty of the Catholic University of Leuven, as an environmental bio-science engineer. He started his research on the harvesting of microalgae within his MSc Thesis. In 2009, he started a PhD on the same topic at the Lab Aquatic Biology, KU Leuven, Kulak. His research focuses on the development of low cost flocculation based techniques to make algae biotechnology feasible for biofuels and other commodity applications. In 2013, he obtained his PhD and received a FWO postdoctoral fellowship. Currently, Dries investigates the interplay between algal biology and flocculation.
