About

Eric Brace has extensive experience with teaching and providing support for individuals who require assistance with both the linguistic and social discourse demands of literacy. Before moving to Australia in 2000, he has worked as a support teacher at an alternative high school servicing a disadvantaged area of San Diego (California). The high school provided a flexible context and curriculum in order to accommodate students who – for diverse social reasons – were unable to settle into a mainstream high school. Within Australia, he has served as a project officer for the Foundation for Young Australians (2001-2002), has provided curriculum support and literacy tutoring for young people with learning difficulties (2002-present), and has conducted research into language (discourse) development within multicultural school settings (2003-2004). Since 2006, Eric Brace has served as the Executive Educational Advisor for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF), where he coordinates the Refugee Action Support and Community Action Support programs. These programs involve the facilitation of language, literacy and learning support for students of refugee background and for Indigenous children and youth living in remote Australia.
