After a career in industry as a developer on Unix, AS400 and PC platforms, I started my own company in 1995 (Alétheia bvba.), building a local ISP, hosting clients, developing websites and applications. From 1998 on I began specializing in Microsoft technology to become a Microsoft Certified Trainer in 2002. Since then I'm teaching in diverse institutions such as Syntra West (Kortrijk and Bruges) and CVO Ostends. In 2005 I sold the customers of my company to Tales Systems and became a full-time lecturer at Howest, dep. GKG (University College), specializing in operating systems. Since 2008 research is part of my job description. From 2008 until 2010 the most important project I worked on was about open source in the Flemish SME landscape. From 2010 on our research group has been preparing another project with a broader perspective. Based on an article by Prof. Dr. Charles Petri from Stanford University, we are looking at the practical applicability of a theory about emergent collectives. In 2011 en 2012 we will be concentrating our research on these topics.
