About

I graduated in 2002 with a 1st class honours MPhys in Optoelectronics and Laser Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. My PhD studies were a CASE studentship sponsored by the UK Astronomy Technology Centre in Edinburgh. I obtained my PhD in 2006, also from Heriot-Watt, in wavefront sensing for adaptive optics in astronomy and metrology. My post-doctoral work at Heriot-Watt involved adapting technology developed for wavefront sensing and astronomy and applying it to the biosciences. I worked with biology and medical research groups across the UK to design, build and support 'bolt on' optical systems for commercial microscopes to provide real-time 3D imaging and particle tracking. I joined the Optical Manipulation Group at St Andrews in January 2010 where I worked to develop imaging applications and holographic techniques for optical micromanipulation in Biophotonics. I joined Leonardo MW in 2012 as a Radar Systems engineer, principally working in development of cutting edge Tracking for next-generation electronically-scanned fighter jet radar systems including the Eurofighter Typhoon and Saab Gripen.
