I focus on problems coupling metallurgy and computational mechanics where the crystallographic microstructure of the material is important. This has several important applications such as the propagation of short cracks, the deformation of polycrystalline materials and damage in contact mechanics. I make a heavy use of synchrotron radiation (in particular via X-ray tomography and diffraction) to probe the material in situ to retrieve three dimensional information about the microstructure, damage and strain evolutions. In the mean time I model the experiment with elasto-plastic constitutive behaviors at the crystal scale using the finite element method.
