About

I run an undergraduate-oriented lab that focuses on whole-plant traits, often in Arabidopsis thaliana but sometimes in a broader diversity of species. I am fascinated by why there are (1) so many genes and (2) so much genetic variation influencing plant traits important to life-cycle timing, reproductive success and other fitness-related traits. I like to think about these topics theoretically but emphasize engaging teams of students in conducting medium- to large experiments conducted in growth chambers, greenhouse and field conditions. My current project, unPAK, extends beyond Barnard to collaborating labs at about a dozen other institutions.
