About

Hyundoo Hwang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, ITESM. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Bio and Brain Engineering from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Korea, in 2006, 2007, and 2010, respectively. His thesis was on optoelectrofluidic manipulation and detection of biomolecules under the direction of Prof. Je-Kyun Park in the NanoBiotech Laboratory. Dr. Hwang worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Nano-Bio Research Center at UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) from 2010 to 2012. He also conducted postdoctoral research in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2012 to 2015. He has been developed novel nano/microdevices for cell biology, clinical diagnostics, environmental science, and energy harvesting. He has authored and co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference abstracts, 2 book chapters, 4 review articles, and 23 patents issued and pending in the area of optoelectrofluidics, cell-based microsystems, and microelectronic devices. He received the Best Paper Award and Best Presentation Award from KBCS in 2006 and 2007, respectively. He received the Best Paper Awards in Biotronics 2008, Sensors Conference 2008, and Biotronics 2009, and selected as Academic Travel Grants to attend microTAS 2008 from The Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society (CBMS) and National Environmental Monitoring Conference 2011 from The NELAC Institute. He was also selected as CHEMINAS Young Researcher Poster Award winner at microTAS 2009. He also received Silver Prizes at Samsung Human-Tech Thesis Competition in both 2010 and 2011, and the Best Graduate Thesis Award from Department of Bio and Brain Engineering at KAIST in 2011. He received Tony B. Academic Travel Award from The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening to attend SLAS 2014. He has been honored with National Science Scholaship from The Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), and Ph.D. Scholarship Award from The Seoam Scholarship Foundation.
