In the USA, where I live, I have been consulting for the Communications Division of the Naval Research Lab, Washington DC for the past 12 years, solving various problems in the area of discovery and communication within mobile ad-hoc wireless networks. I won the Alan Berman best NRL research paper prize for 2010 and 2011. I have also been involved in several startups over the past three years. I developed and managed the technical platform (website, recurring payment paypal integration, backend cloud integration and a cloud monitoring systems) for www.skydesks.com from October 2010 and Feb 2013. More recently I developed the Energy Intelligence Worldwide (www.eiwcorp.com) Energy Consumption Optimizer (ECO) for reducing energy consumption in high-rise buildings and implemented the backend website to serve multiple buildings from a cloud service. I also ran USA and UK operations for Eco4Cloud (www.eco4cloud.com) for 18 months, who reduce energy use in data centers by consolidating virtual machines to the minimum number of servers in order to power down servers not needed. Through this experience, I have gained a lot of experience in backend and front end Web development, patent writing, marketing techniques and operations, business operations, customer relations and developing partnering arrangements for B2B hierarchies to realize the potential of many forms of revenue.
In the UK, I am a part-time Reader (Associative professor) in Distributed and Scientific Computing at the School of Computer Science, Cardiff, and I have a strong track record in running projects in the Web, workflow and data distribution areas, with applications in audio, astrophysics and healthcare. I have written 2 professional distributed computing books (sold 2000+), edited another, and co-chaired Research Groups at the Open Grid Forum, and published 80+ scientific papers.
