About

I have a Ph.D. in Information Studies from the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, USA. I was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and the Yahoo! Key Scientific Challenges Award to conduct doctoral research in the area of multilingual information access and language diversity on the Internet. My projects include multilingual social tagging, transnational social networks, and user studies of language choice in search and communication. I acquired most of my research experience in a multidisciplinary environment, at the College of Information Studies and the Human-Computer Interaction Lab in UMD. As a result, I have become a versatile researcher, eager to learn and explore new fields. I use mixed methods tailored to each research problem, including social network analysis, statistical analysis, qualitative content analysis, grounded theory, surveys and interviews. Also, I was trained to communicate my research to general and heterogeneous audiences in a way that makes it understandable and compelling. I have a significant international experience and a background in Translation studies, which helped me develop multicultural sensitivity. I come from Spain, and have lived in Canada, the UK, and the USA; and I speak Spanish, English, and French.
