Jan Aerts is Associate Professor at the KU Leuven and runs the Visual Data Analysis Lab ( This lab is part of Bioinformatics at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT/STADIUS), Faculty of Engineering. With a background in genomics, his current research focuses on visual analytics and hypothesis-free investigation of large and/or complex datasets. Particular areas of research are visual design, interaction design, and scalability. Jan Aerts has been elected as a Member of the Young Academy - Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Art.
