About

Jan Gillesen is an Industrial Designer born in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands. He obtained both his bachelor (2007) and masters (2009) degree in Industrial Design at the department at Eindhoven University of Technology. During the bachelor and masters, Jan has specialized himself in designing for users with different mental challenges, and during the masters, focusing more and more on autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Jan per¬formed his graduation project the Health Systems Institute at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, designing new technology for training pragmatic problem solving skills for people with ASD. Currently he is doing PhD research on how robotics can be effectively be introduced in training programs for people with ASD, where trainers will have a way to easily set up scenarios for a robot. Jan’s passion in design lies in how technology can be used creatively to give people with different mental challenges new ways to express themselves.
