About

I started my career at the University of Cape Town (UCT), in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, where I got a BSc in genetics and microbiology before moving straight into my BSc (Hons) in molecular and cell biology. After that, I took a break and attempted to find work outside of university. During that time, I started learning Japanese and did a short internship with SANBI at Kirstenbosch. After the internship, I completed a masters (with distinction) at UCT, in the Division of Human Genetics, on GJB2 mutations in African patients with non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss. Following that I looked for PhD positions and occasionally volunteered at the Cape Town Science Centre before being accepted as a PhD student at the Gregor Mendel Institute in Vienna, Austria.
