As president of the Board of Education for J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 in Cicero, Illinois, Jeff Pesek has spearheaded a comprehensive planning process that has revamped many functions of the district office and brought in new staff members to implement vital initiatives. One of Jeff Pesek’s major areas of focus has been the newly created Learning Support System (LSS). With the fundamental belief that “student failure is not an option,” the LSS consists of a number of curriculum directors who operate under the recently installed assistant superintendent of educational programs.
Mr. Pesek has also renewed emphasis on a districtwide mandate for continuous professional development, in order to create and maintain a solid base of motivated and well-trained instructors. The Professional Development Academy utilizes strategies such as learning assessment, differentiated instruction, and understanding by design to ensure that district priorities and objectives are fully met. Jeff Pesek has additionally been successful in balancing the school district budget and keeping J.S. Morton High School District 201 on a sustainable fiscal track.
