About

I am a professor of education at the Education and Social Research Institute, Manchester metropolitan University. I have participated in or led over 70 funded research projects at both national and international levels most of which have focused on innovation, institutional analysis, curriculum processes and workplace learning. I have carried out several national evaluations of education as well as training in such areas as health, policing and schooling. Four of my 10 books have focused on innovative approaches to doing research in school, community, multi-professional and multidisciplinary contexts. I am particularly interested in research approaches that underpin democratic practices and contribute to social justice. Many of my research projects have focused on the experiences of young people at school, youth cultures and issues of violence. I have also undertaken projects to evaluate the training of health professionals and the continuing professional development of doctors. I also maintain the Enquiry Learning site where a large number of research papers are freely available: http://www.enquirylearning.net/ELU/SubFrame.html
