I completed my PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution (2011-2015) at CIBIO-InBio (University of Porto, Portugal) and IBE-CSIC (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain) supervised by Dr. James Harris and Dr. Elena Goméz-Díaz at IBE-CSIC (Spain). This work assessed the diversity of apicomplexan parasites and investigated host-parasite associations in reptiles. For this, microscopy and molecular methods were used for detection and identification of hemoparasites in various host species from various geographical locations. These works contributed to increase the knowledge about the distribution and classification of these parasites in wild animals. Currently, I am a Pos-Doc researcher at the University of Aveiro under the supervisor of Dr. Isabel Lopes at CESAM (Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies). My main research interests are parasitology, epidemiology, genetics, evolution, biodiversity, conservation and ecotoxicology.
