After secondary school graduation I enrolled in the study Biomedical Sciences in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I finished my Bachelor's degree with honors and proceeded my education with Cancer, Genomics, and Developmental Biology (CGDB) as my Master, also in Utrecht. I followed an internship in a genetics lab and one in a virology / immunology lab. My final thesis was about "microRNAs as molecular switches", supervised by Edwin Cuppen. I received my Master title in August 2007 with the distinction "Cum laude". After graduation I was offered a PhD position in Prof. Dr. Cuppen's lab to dissect the effects of miRNAs using a systematic approach. Currently I'm working on this PhD project.
