About

I was born in Medellin, Colombia, in 164. I studied Veterinary Medicine in Universidad de los Llanos (Unillanos) at Villavicencio city (Colombia) from January 1983 to September 1, 1989. My undergraduate research work was focused on the study of Levodopa on fracture healing in dogs. In 1990 I moved back to Medellin city (Colombia) where I worked as Small Animal clinician. In August 1990 I started my Master of Science in Immunology at the School of Medicine, University of Antioquia. My research was focused on the study of allogeneic lymphocyte immunotherapy on reproductive success in wild species (Tremarctos ornatus and Panthera onca) and domestic animal reproduction (rabbits and swine). In 1993 I worked as part time Auxiliary Professor (companion animals) at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Antioquia. From 1993 to 1995 I worked as Junior Scientist in research Group Reproduction (School of Medicine, University of Antioquia). In October 1995 I was accepted as Assistant Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine (University of Antioquia) in the Staff of Veterinary basic and Clinical Reproductive (Theriogenology). Since then I have worked in research and teaching activities, as well as in extension services in the field of Theriogenology. In 1999 I moved to Clamart (France) to the Laboratory of Gerard Chaouat where I performed my PhD studies. My Thesis was focused on the study of CXCR4 and CCR5 HIV-1 co-receptor expression in human placenta and primary trophoblast cells, as a part of an European Collaborative Multicenter Study on the mechanisms of vertical transmission of HIV-1. During my Thesis in Dr. Chaouat´s group we worked in cooperation with Dr. Francoise Barre-Sinoussi Laboratory of Retrovirus at Pasteur Institute, and Dr. Dominiq Dormont at CEA, Fontenay-Aux-Roses. In November 2002 I moved back to Medellin when I resume my teaching position for undertake teaching and research activities in Theriogenology and veterinary immunology. In addition I still working in cooperation with Reproduction Group and NACER Group (School of Medicine), in the study of the mechanisms of the innate immune system in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, and with Nutrition Group (School of Nutrition) in the study of iron receptors expression in human placenta. From 2006 to 2008 I was Editor of Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias (The leading Journal in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Sciences in Colombia). From 2008 to 2010 I participate with other colleagues at the School of Veterinary Medicine in the creation of Graduate Program in Veterinary Science, which since 2013 offers Master of Science and PhD studies in University of Antioquia. Since 2011 I work as Director of the School of Veterinary Medicine (University of Antioquia). My areas of interest are Theriogenology, veterinary immunology and reproductive immunology. I also have experience in curricular design in Veterinary Medicine (Undergraduate) and Veterinary Sciences (Graduate) programs. In 2004 I married to Dr. María S. González-Dominguez. Our children Pedro and Juanita were born in 2008 and 2010. I practiced Volleyball all my life and I participated in National university tournaments. I also played soccer in senior local competitions between 2008 and 2012. I love music (mainly baroque and classical music and Colombian traditional music).
