    An Alabama religious leader with a career that spans three decades, Dr. Karnie Smith holds a doctor of ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and a master of divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee. Since founding the organization in 2001, he has served as the senior pastor of the Walking On Water Christian Church. Karnie Smith previously led congregations at the St. John AME Church in Birmingham, the St. John AME Church in Troy, the St. Paul AME Church in Scottsboro, and the Gravitt’s Chapel AME Church in New Market. In addition to his daily responsibilities at Walking On Water, Karnie Smith simultaneously serves as a board member with Operation New Birmingham, a partnership between the City of Birmingham and the local business community that promotes both economic development and racial harmony. Dr. Smith is also the founder of the Lazarus Project, CDC, and Bright Star Academy, Inc.
