About

Usually found at the bottom of a pile of video cameras and external disk drives, Keith Heggart is an Apple Distinguished Educator (Class of 2009) from McCarthy Catholic College, Emu Plains. Currently, he is working as the Online Learning and Mentoring Coordinator at McCarthy, while completing his doctorate in the possibilities and challenges of digital citizenship education. Keith has been teaching for more than a decade and has been a senior leader in schools in both Australia and the United Kingdom. While in England, he was Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning) at Chafford Hundred Campus, and before his current position, he was Leader of Learning at St Mark's Catholic College, Stanhope Gardens. Keith has had extensive practice in 1:1 laptop programs, having worked in three different schools who have adopted this model. More recently, Keith has become interested in the possibilities of combining mobile learning and challenge based learning in interdisciplinary learning environments. Keith has also recently established a media team of students. Check out their stories here: news.mrheggart.com. Keith has also dabbled in developing educational apps for the iPhone. You can find them on the app store if you search for education4u. As well as being an Apple Distinguished Educator, Keith is a Google Certified Teacher and a fellow of Mirandanet, an international organisation of technology educators. He also moderates a forum on Online Learning at Edutopia. In his spare time (when he has any) Keith likes to brew his own beer and mess about on boats. You can read more about keith at his blog (blog.mrheggart.com) or you can follow him on twitter (@keithheggart).
