Dr Liau Kui Hin is medical director, senior consultant surgeon and director of Clinical Quality Management of Nexus Surgical Associates in Mt Elizabeth Hospital Singapore. He also belongs to the teaching faculty with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Liau was the Chief of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Unit in the Department of General Surgery from 2004 to 2010. He was the Deputy Head of Department of General Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2008 to 2010. His expertise and specialization include hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, endoscopic surgery, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary infection and surgical infection.

Dr Liau received his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1994. He then underwent basic and advanced surgical training at the Graduate School of Medical Studies at the National University of Singapore. Following his post-graduate education, he received his higher subspecialty surgical training overseas at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. Among his many qualifications, he is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK, and of the International College of Surgeons. Dr Liau is part of the council in the College of Surgeons of Singapore, Academy of Medicine. He is the founder and current vice-president of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association of Singapore after having served in the council of Asian-Pacific Hepato- Pancreato-Biliary Association from 2004-2009. Dr Liau was deputy chairman of the Quality Assurance Surgical Care Committee in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. At the same time, Dr Liau also served in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme Committee and was involved in Surgical Site Prevention Programme. In the recent years, Dr Liau assisted in the formation of the new International Surgical Infection Study Group.

Dr Liau has received several academic, service and principal investigator awards; he received the 2008 and 2009 Star Excellent Service Awards from SPRING Singapore and the Singapore Public Service honored him in 2009 with the PS21 Star Service Award for healthcare. Extensively involved in research projects, Dr Liau has authored more than 40 articles in local and international journals. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery and is an associate editor of the Singapore Medical Journal.
