Research interests

Dr. Laura M. McGrath is a senior research scientist in the Advanced Materials group at Luna Innovations. Her research focus is surface morphology effects on functional coatings and surfaces. Prior to Luna, she was senior researcher at ERC, Inc on contract to the Air Force Research Laboratory, Propulsion Directorate, Edwards AFB, CA. Dr. McGrath has experience with fracture mechanics, composites, coatings, and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) functionalized polymers. She received her PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Connecticut in 2009. Doctoral studies were completed in part at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM in the Organic Materials group, studying fracture and adhesion mechanisms of epoxy encapsulants. Dr. McGrath is a member of the American Chemical Society including the Division of Polymer Chemistry and the Division of Polymeric Materials, Science and Engineering.
