The recipient of a doctor of philosophy in organic and polymer chemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park, Lu Ann Sidney, PhD, has dedicated her professional life to science. With a focus on radiation chemistry, polymer characterization, and thin-film coatings, Sidney has garnered five U.S. patents and multiple records of invention. Since 1996, when she founded LNS Consulting Services in Chanhassen, Minnesota, Lu Ann Sidney, PhD, has offered her insights on matters ranging from analyzing competitive patents and sourcing resins to choosing materials for medical equipment and producing collateral for trade shows.
While overseeing LNS Consulting Services, Sidney has also worked for other firms. As a materials scientist for Fargo Electronics, she created a new laminate for ID cards, which fixed problems with thermal transfer quality. The Advanced Materials Division of IBA in Belgium also benefited from her expertise as a senior materials specialist. This position required her to develop methods of investigating radiation processing and to identify the potential use of different materials in medical sterilization devices. In the process, Lu Ann Sidney, PhD, oversaw an IBA team that commissioned and utilized a 10 MeV electron beam accelerator.
