Luca Leuzzi (born Rome 1972, Phd Amsterdam 2002) is a theoretical physicist, director of the Soft and Living Matter Laboratory (Rome) of the Institute of Nanotechnology of the National Research Council of Italy and lecturer of the PhD School "Vito Volterra" in Physics, by the University Sapienza of Rome. LL graduated cum laude in 1997 in Physics (Rome Sapienza IT) and obtained his PhD cum laude in 2002 at the University of Amsterdam (UvA, Netherlands). His research activity focuses on theoretical physics, including HPC parallel numerical simulations, mainly in the fields of disordered, glassy and complex systems, with recent activity in nonlinear optics and random lasers. Since 1999 L.L. authored more than 60 articles in peer reviewed international journals, one book and more than 40 contributions to international conferences, schools and workshops. His main research lines are spin-glass and structural glass theories, including the development of numerical resolution techniques for the continuous Replica Symmetry Breaking solution in the mean-field approach to the spin-glass phase, the introduction of dynamically facilitated glassy models to select the origin of the salient features of the amorphous state, the resolution of disordered models and the analysis of their complexity, the connection between the Becchi-Rouet-Stora fermionic symmetry and the nature of the complex landscape characterizing the configurational space in glasses and spin-glasses, applications of disordered systems theories to computer science constraint satisfaction problems and, eventually, to the disordered photonics. L.L. has formerly been Unit Director of the Institute of Chemical-Physical Processes, IPCF-CNR, in Rome (2010-2013), Researcher by the Statistical Mechanics and Complexity (SMC) of the INFM-CNR (2005-09 untenured, 2009-10 tenured), Post-doc by the SMC-INFM-CNR (2002-2004). Awarded with the "Seed Grant for young researchers" of the Italian National Institute for Matter Physics (2008-2009) "Order in disorder: investigating fundamental mechanisms of inverse transitions", LL is currently Principal Investigator of the Basic Research Investigation Fund (FIRB) 2008 project "Statistical mechanics of disordered granular laser systems: theory and experiments" funded by the Italian Ministry of Research (MIUR) (2010-2015), P.I. of the CNR Unit of the National Interest Research Program (PRIN) 2010-2011 MIUR Project "Statistical Mechanics of Disordered and Complex Systems" (2012-2015) and P. I. of the Rome Unit of the FP7-PEOPLE-2011-ITN NETADIS Project.
