I work as a post-doctoral researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações Porto, where I do research and technology transfer in the area of vehicular networks. I earned a European PhD in Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) and received a best student award for the Licenciatura in Computer Science and Network Engineering, both from Universidade do Porto, Portugal. During my PhD, beyond conducting PhD-level research, I was responsible for supervising several students at master and undergraduate levels, as well as leading and developing an open-source software project for network simulation for an FP7 European project. I worked as a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Technische Universitaet Muenchen (Germany) and Telefónica Investigación & Desarrollo (Spain), where I had the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of innovation with top researchers in the networking fields. My work has found applications in video streaming and peer-to-peer technologies and generated interest from companies such as NBC and BAE systems. I am also passionate about the application of network and complexity science to broad areas with real-world impact, while being keen on problem solving through technology in various contexts. I have collaborated with national and international companies and startups in the areas of urban technology, e-health, media and journalism. I love teamwork, learning new concepts and especially to come up with creative ideas and explore them from the very beginning to execution -- I strive on projects that allow me to work not only on the bigger picture, but also on the execution details. I am also a photographer and a classical Portuguese equitation rider committed to help preserve and disseminate Portuguese equestrian tradition.
