I am heading a research group on low-power medical electronics at the Institute of Microelectronics of Sevilla. Our group conducts research on silicon microsystems to understanding biological neural systems, systems and algorithms for the energy-efficient acquisition of sensory information, neural prostheses and brain-machine interfaces, implantable and wearable biomedical electronics, parallel signal processing, event-based computation, wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) transceivers, and sensor-enabled RFID communications. I received the M.S. degree in Physics and the Ph.D. degree (with honors) on Physics-Electronics from the University of Seville, Spain, in 1988 and 1996, respectively. Since the Doctorate, I have been uninterruptedly working in the Institute of Microelectronics of Seville/CNM-CSIC (IMSE-CNM/CSIC) where I hold a permanent position as Senior Researcher ("Investigador Científico del CSIC"). Along this professional period, I have directed 8 Ph.D. theses and 9 M.S. theses in the field of mixed-signal integrated circuits. Additionally, I have participated in some 20 National and European funded Research Projects, 8 of them with the role of main researcher. Besides, I have participated in 4 industrial contracts and realized several consultant services to industry. I have coauthored two books (Device-Level Modeling and Synthesis of High-Performance Pipeline ADCs. Springer, 2011. ISBN 978-1-4419-8845-4 and Ultra Low Power Transceiver for Wireless Body Area Networks. Springer, 2013. ISBN 978-3-319-00097-8); around 20 chapters in contributed books; and some 150 articles in peer-review specialized publications.
