    Dr. Maria J. Colomina graduated at the Valencia University, Spain. She did her medical training in Barcelona at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital at the Department of Anaesthesiology, where she continued his work as a specialist until june 2016. Now, She is working as a Section Chief in the Anaesthesia & Critical Care Department at Bellvitge University Hospital in Barcelona – Spain. Doctor in Medicine by the University of Zaragoza, Spain in 1996 and Head of Section in Anaesthesia Department in Vall d’Hebron Hospital, Barcelona since 2006. She is also member and collaborator in Transfusion and Homeostasis subcommittee of the “European Society of Anaesthesia” (ESA) since 2010 and active member in the section of The Homeostasis, Transfusional Medicine and Fluid therapy from the “Spanish Society of Anaesthesiology” (SEDAR) since 2006 up to nowadays. Since 2013, she has collaborated in biannual classes from the CEEA’s Course III dedicated to Intensive Care and Blood Transfusions of the “Committee of European Education in Anaesthesiology” (CEEA) in Barcelona. She has furthermore collaborated in the Anaesthesia Department in the Surgical Specialties courses of the “Societat Catalana d’Anestesiologia, Reanimació i Terapéutica del Dolor” annual classes since 2004 and is an associated clinical assistant of Medicine School of Universitat Autónoma Barcelona (UAB) since 2004 to 2014. From 2016 until now Professor Assistant at the Department of Clinical science in Barcelona University – Spain. She has Co-directed 4 doctoral theses and has belonged to an evaluation jury in doctoral thesis in 5 occasions. Since 1994s, Dr. Colomina has been actively implicated in perioperative anaesthesia management in complex spinal surgery, including all aspects related to blood loss and perioperative bleeding and patient blood management and in the Group of Spine Study (URCV-VHIR) as a member from 1996 until now. She was a main researcher in a 2010-2014 FIS grant as an Independent Clinical Research Project from the Spanish Health Ministry: “Clinical, multicenter, randomized and controlled study with placebo to evaluate the efficacy of perioperative use of tranexamic acid on transfusion requirements and surgical bleeding in complex spine surgery”. “Grup d’Avaluació Preoperatòria: Estalvi de Sang” member of the Catalan Society of Anaesthesiology in Catalan Academy of Medical Sciences, since October 2004. She is a Group GEAS (Blood Saving Study Group) funding member since 2001. Group member of expert assessors for the Spanish Health Ministry, Haemotherapy section:” Optimal use and alternative for blood transfusion evaluation”, from January 2004 to 2012.
