About

I graduated (MSc) from Delft University of Technology in September 2000 on the "Integration of Aircraft Warning Systems using Multi-Agent Systems". After a year of travels around the world, I started working on my PhD thesis in 2002. The project was sponsored by Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. My research on haptic gas pedal support contributed to the development of Nissan's "world first" Distance Control Assist haptic gas pedal. After finishing writing my PhD thesis by the end of 2005 I volunteered with Doctors without Borders and was sent to Sierra Leone to work as a logistician at Magburaka Government Hospital. After a year of hard work in the tropics, I returned back home to defend my thesis. January 30, 2007, I successfully defended my PhD thesis on "Haptic Gas Pedal Feedback for Active Car-following Support". Since then, I worked for the Aerospace Software and Technologies Institute at the department of Aerospace Engineering on flight simulator certification, the balked landing study for The Boeing Company, and more haptic guidance work for Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. I moved to the department of Biomechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology in april 2011, continuing my research on haptic guidance, shared control and steer-by-wire technology. In addition I started research on whole-body vibrations and muscle fatigue due to vehicle vibrations. Furthermore, my experiences with Doctors without Borders led me to the decision to also pursue a career in medicine. In 2008 I was selected to enroll in med-school at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center in Amsterdam. I received my bachelor's degree in medicine in 2011 and my MD in December 2014. In May 2015 I started working as a MD in the Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Delft at the department of Internal Medicine. Since January 2017 I am a resident Internal Medicine at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. Specialties: haptic feedback; safety systems; interface design; pilot/driver modeling; flight/driving simulation; experiment design; and internal medicine.
