About

I conduct research at the intersection of psychology, anthropology, and biology. I ask, What are the evolved psychological mechanisms that support derived forms of human sociality such as large social networks, collective action, and cumulative culture? I am principally a field anthropologist focusing my research on social relationships and social norms in Fiji. Current projects include 1) developing a functional theory of sentiments applied to contempt, 2) using novel "RICH" economic games to study social relationship regulation in Fiji, and 3) investigating Fijian village norms that support informal risk management.
