As Publishing Content Specialist, I am responsible for 1. Programme Development and Promotion • Researching and defining potential topics/fields of interest by using Scopus for citation analysis, and discussing possible topics with (or forwarding them to) Guest Editors • Sourcing and preparing data, i.e. statistical information, trends • Managing the SID database, including details of every project • Monitoring projects under consideration • Look out for commercial opportunities (Bulk Orders, Advertisements, Online Access, Supplements), and flagging commercial opportunities to Commercial Sales (where applicable) and Publishers • Reporting on SI progress to Publishers • Requesting promotional access to an issue on ScienceDirect 2. Content Acquisition and Agreement • Evaluating proposals for SIs - Running SCOPUS analyses to determine the topic’s attractiveness for the journal • In consultation with the Editor and according to guidelines set by the PU, approaching possible guest editors and contributors and negotiating arrangements • Negotiating and preparing agreement letters for Guest Editors according to PU instructions and chasing for signatures 3. Programme Maintenance and Support for Guest Editors and Authors • Providing guidance and instructions to Guest Editors and authors • Requesting JMs to set up SIs in EES/EVISE • Providing regular overviews to PUs and JEs • Chasing Guest Editors and sometimes authors to ensure that a paper is received on time • Answering editor and author queries (with a 48 hour response time) • Upon publication arranging for editor/guest editor copies; bulk shipments and payment (if applicable); thank you letters to Guest Editors 4. Review Journals PCSs are also responsible for review journals: • Sending contracts to each commissioned author (where necessary) • Chasing overdue authors and ensuring that payments are made upon publication of each journal issue. The level of PCS involvement in the tracking of manuscripts for review journals varies depending on the journal’s set-up, the involvement of the Editors, and whether the journal is in EES/EVISE.
