Dr. Milos Kravcik has a diploma degree (1986) in computer science and a doctoral degree (2006) in applied informatics from Comenius University in Bratislava for works on Collaborative Authoring of Adaptive Educational Hypermedia. He has been dealing with Technology Enhanced Learning since 1988 when he joined the Centre for Pedagogical Software Development at Comenius University. Later he has participated in various EU funded projects and several other ones (e.g. supported by the British Council and the Open Society Foundation), some of which he has coordinated. His work included also teaching (Hypermedia Systems, Information Retrieval, File Structures, UNIX) and supervision of master students doing their diploma work. Externally he has cooperated with Sun Microsystems Slovakia in their training programs. Since 2001 he has been working abroad, first at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology in Germany and later at the Open University in the Netherlands. At Fraunhofer he was part of a team that developed a Web based adaptive learning environment for the field of design and architecture. He also participated in the RAFT project, one of the first in the area of mobile learning, with which he won the best poster award at the ICALT 2003 conference. In the PROLEARN Network of Excellence he coordinated the work-package on Personalized Adaptive Learning and at the end he achieved the highest degree centrality in the network. At the Open University in Heerlen his main activity in the TENCompetence project was organization of training (e.g. winter schools, web seminars) and in the GRAPPLE project he lead a work-package aiming at deployment of adaptive learning solutions in academic settings. In the ICOPER project he dealt with standardization and interoperability in e-learning. He was also reviewer of an EC-funded project as well as workshop, tutorial, and demonstration co-chair of the UMAP (User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization) 2009 Conference. In addition he is executive peer-reviewer of several journals, including Journal of Educational Technology & Society and IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, as well as editorial board member for the International Journal of Technology Enhanced Learning.
