About

I'm a research student at Newcastle, and formerly at Glasgow and St Andrews. My interests are varied, and I work in low-dimensional topology, group theory, semigroup theory and decision problems, mainly using geometric and combinatorial techniques. I also have interests in probability theory and fractal geometry. In my spare time, I'm an active musician - I play weekly at a free-jazz night in the Byre Theatre in St Andrews. I am also involved in the Sonic Recreation, an Edinburgh-Glasgow-based live Drum and Bass group, and the Blueswater Collective, a cosmopolitan network of musicians dedicated to preservation and performance of live blues-inspired music. I'll be playing with the latter at the Radisson Hotel in Edinburgh in August, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
