I lead research unit on land dynamics and macro-ecology, consisting of four research groups, with a total permanent staff of 7 scientists, and with ca. 25-30 non-permanent scientists. My major research interest is on functional ecology, ecological theory and on the different methods to model ecological patterns and processes both in space and time. I consider modelling a way to better understand ecological systems, rather than a means to an end. I have supervised 10 PhD students as major adviser, and I have served as a committee member on numerous masters and PhD degrees.
