Paolo Romano has a Master degree (2002) summa cum laude in Computer Engineering by the Rome University "Tor Vergata". He obtained the PhD in Computer and Systems Engineering (2006) by the Rome University "La Sapienza". Since 2002 to 2008 he was a a lecturer at the Rome University "La Sapienza" in the area of Distributed Systems, Capacity Planning, Computer Architecture and Object Oriented Programming. Since 2008 he is a senior researcher at INESC-ID, where he coordinates the research activities of the Distributed Systems Group group in the area of Distributed Transactional Memories. In this area, he has led the FP7 project Cloud-TM and is Chair of the Euro-TM COST ACTION. In 2011 he was granted the Best INESC-ID Young Researcher award. In 2012 he joined the Computer Engineering department of the Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon, where he hold an assistant professor position. His research interests include parallel and distributed computing, dependability, autonomic systems, performability modelling and evaluation, cloud and high performance computing. In these areas, he has published more than 80 papers and serves regularly as Program Committee member and reviewer for prestigious international conferences and journals (e.g. IEEE TKDE, IEEE TPDS, ACM TOPLAS, CCGRID, OPODIS).
