About

As a geochronologist and geochemist I currently study the evolution of the Himalayan fold-thrust belt. My research aims to reconstruct fault motion, rock uplift, erosion, exhumation and foreland basin development for the past ca. 20 million years in eastern Bhutan. This will be achieved by integrating multiple geological approaches, such as thermochronological provenance analysis, forward kinematic structural modelling, numerical modelling of thermo-kinematic fields in the upper crust, while testing a variety of denudation/erosion models. I will ultimately be able to address questions that link internal with external geological processes, such as the interaction of large-scale rock movement and climate. My other interests lie in the tectonic evolution of east Asia in general. More specifically, I am interested in the Late Palaeozoic to Early Triassic closure of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean, for which I adopted in the past a similar integrated approach using geochronological and geochemical methods to decipher Earth's past.
