About

Assistant Professor of Ecology at the Universidade de São Paulo and currently Chair of the Graduate Program of Ecology. His main research interests are (a) to find minimal mechanistic models to describe the organization of biological diversity in natural and disturbed communities, (b) to develope protocols to assess the statistical quality of these models, through confrontation with empirical and simulated data. To this end, Paulo combines the development and application of analytical tools, computational modeling, and field studies. His core current research project is to build models of species abundance distributions and a likelihood-based protocol to fit and compare these models. Paulo has published articles on patterns of biological diversity and interactions on vertebrates, arthropods, plants and micro-organisms as well as conceptual works and statistical techniques in ecology.
