About

My PhD work is about analysing and understanding the dynamic behaviour of railway catenary systems. In this work I have made numerical models of railway catenary sections to study their behaviour as well as measured accelerations on several existing, in use, catenary sections on the Dovre line. The numerical modelling includes full size three dimensional finite element models of railways catenary sections with train running along them, including the very important contact interaction between the pantograph and the contact wire. An appropriate monitoring system has been designed and used for sampling full-scale measurements. The main objective of this PhD-project is to understand and improve the behaviour of new and existing railway catenary systems.
