I'm currently working in Professor Michael Lisanti Lab. My current interests are in the study of a new proposal for cancer progression, a model coined "The reverse Warburg effect". We are also interested in finding possible biomarkers that identify tumours with malignant potential and tumour that are likely to form metastasis. My past interests include i) intestinal stem cells, response of intestinal epithelium to irradiation and the differences in the different parts of the intestine. I used the model of "immortal DNA" proposed by Cairns and demonstrated by Potten to look at the incidence of Label Retaining Cells (LRCs) in the different parts of the intestine. LRCs have been used extensively as a surrogate marker for stem cells in a variety of tissues. ii) before this I was interested in Oxidative Stress, and how different bio-compounds induced oxidative stress levels in different organs. I was mostly studying the effect of different vanadate solutions that contained different vanadate species (monovanadate, metavanadate, decavanadate) and how this composition affected absorption and oxidative stress levels.
