Nugayev Rinat Magdievich (born in May, 30, 1953), doctor of philosophy, professor, a member of Volga Region State Academy of Culture, Sport&Tourism dept. of humanities teaching stuff. Title of honoured scientist of Tatarstan, a member of British Society for the Philosophy of Science, American Philosophy of Science Association, American Physical Society, an Associate member of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. A member of the Academic Commitee of “Physical Interpretation of Relativity” international conference (London, UK). A member of the Editorial Board of “Philosophy of Science” international journal (published by University of Chicago, USA). A specialist in philosophy, history and sociology of science. Participated in the international congresses in Kazan, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Minsk, London, Uppsala (Sweden), Ulm (West Germany), international seminars in Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Bloomington (USA), international conferences in Indianapolis (USA), Kirdjali (Bulgaria) and Warsaw (Poland). On graduating (1970) Kazan special secondary school number 18 (10-year basic English course +3-year course of English literature) joined the physics department of KSU (Kazan State University). His major university disciplines were Riemannian geometry and general relativity taught at special relativity dept. founded by prof. Alexej Zinovievich Petrov (following the traditions of Nicolas Lobachevsky). Nugayev’s magisterial work was devoted to nonmetric theories of gravity. On graduating the post-graduate philosophy courses in Kazan and Moscow he gets his M.Sci degree at Moscow State University. The theme of his “kandidatskaya” dissertation was “Occurence and Resolution of Theory-Choice Situations in Physics” (1979, Moscow University). The theme of his “doktorskaya” dissertation was “Reconstruction of Mature Theory Change”(1991, Moscow Institute of Philosophy). In 1982 he had joined the KSU teaching stuff to lecture on philosophy (and philosophy of science) and in 1993 was elected a KSU professor. In 2001 he had worked as RSEP research fellow at the department of history&philosophy of science in Bloomington, Indiana, USA under the kind supervision of Prof. Noretta Koertge. Nugayev R.M. was a supervisor of seven “kandidatskaya” dissertations on philosophy and sociology of science. He is married and has two children. Nugayev’s research and its main results. (1) He had developed a model of theory change, based on the ideas of Russian researchers (V.S. Stepin, E.A. Mamchur, V.P.Bransky, V.S. Schwyrev, M.I. Podgoretzky, Ya. A. Smorodinsky, N.I. Kuznetzova, S.V.Illarionov), and on some Western views (I.Lakatos, T.S.Kuhn, P.Feyerabend, L.Tisza, S. Goldberg, J.Illy, E.Zahar) as well. According to the model, the origins of scientific revolutions lie not in a clash of mature theories with facts, but of “old” mature theories with each other, leading to contradictions than can only be (partly) eliminated in a more general theory. (2) On the basis of the model developed he proposed the so-called “conception of communicative rationality” that takes the socio-psychological peculiarities of theory change into account. The conception proposed enables one to describe the basic paradigms’ interaction in a proper way, as well as the interaction of cognitive and of social parts of the paradigms too.The key role in theory change is played by the proponents of the old paradigms’ dialogue that leads to real interactions in all the three main dimensions including personal , institutional (scientific community) and cultural (theoretical) aspects. As a result a new paradigm is constructed containing a set of crossbred objects. (3) R.M. Nugayev had developed a new model of “Einstein Revolution” embracing the rational reconstructions of “Lorentz - Einstein” and “classical radiation theory-quantum theory” transitions in the light of the model described in (1)-(2). As a result, special relativity creation can be considered as a preliminary stage of quantum theory construction; hence the reasons of Einstein’s victory over Lorentz can not be understood without Einstein’s and his contemporaries’ works on quantum theory. Modern physics occured not due to new empirical data (there were some, however), but due to Planck’s and Einstein’s attempts to accomodate to each other Maxwellian electrodynamics, classical (and statistical) mechanics and thermodynamics in 1899-1905 and Einstein’s efforts to co-ordinate newtonian gravity and special relativity (1907-1914). Thus, the transition from the old paradigm to its new counterpart should be described in Habermasian terms of gradual communicative action formation and consequent superseeding of all the other “Weberian” types.Einstein’s programme won the first prize not because it was better than the others in empirical respects. It was the best one because it became the basis of the long-waited dialogue between the leading classical physics paradigms whose proponents were in psychological, instituional and cultural isolation before Planck, Einstein and Bohr. (4) A new outlook of XVII century scientific revolution have been elaborated and a rational reconstruction of “Ptolemy-Copernicus” transition following Alexander Koyre’s brilliant works was proposed. The key idea is based on the “fact” that Newton’s theory resulted in (partial) unification of two disparate subjects developed independently : “earth science” and “divine mathematics”. To eliminate an ancient controversy between the descriptions of earth and skies, Galileo had “lowered” the divine mathematics to describe the earth processes. On the other hand, it was sir Isaac Newton that expanded the earth principles to embrace the skies. (5) On the basis of the theory-change model the formation of “quantum theory in curved space-times” was investigated in the connection with some unification processes taking part in theories of supersymmetry and superstrings. (6) A special Methodology of Competing Social Science Research Programmes was elaborated (on the basis of Imre Lakatos’s ideas) aimed at description of the growth of knowledge in social science & humanities. The Methodology enables to re-evaluate the connections between their ideological and cognitive parts .Real growth of knowledge consists in the growth of causal explanations and in the corresponding growth of empirical content of the theories from superseeding scientific research programmes. (7) Nugayev takes part together with his pupils in studying the values, the way of life and dynamics of the various parts of Tatarstan scientific community: the groops of natural and social scientists, the groops of youngsters and of old folkes, and the groops of scientific woomen. (8) Nugayev had participated in the elaboration of various regional models of socio-economic development conceptual foundations . Together with his co-workers from Tatarstan Academy of Science sociology dept. he took part in the investigations of regional social potential, quality and way of life, the possible ways of modernization, health care reforms, social protection, basic values and ideologies. In 1994-2002 he was awarded President Yeltzin’s personal stipend as an outstanding scientist of Russia.Received grants from Russian Ministry of Education and Russian Foundation for Basic Research, as well as from Soros Foundation (1991, 1993,1995,1997) and from RSEP. He published 250 papers in the scientific journals of Russia, Ukraine, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, France, Japan and some other countries.
