Born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. At the age of 18, moved to Eindhoven, to pursue a BS in Innovation Sciences. After completion of that program, went to Columbia University in the city of New York to pursue a MS degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering. With a focus on Waste Management and Life-Cycle Analysis, Rob finished his degree and applied to the Ph.D. program at the same department. He shifted his focus more towards renewable energy and energy storage solutions to deal with intermittency.
