About

Robert Langlois earned his BS in BioEngineering at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) before being recruited into the PhD program by Hui Lu. His research started with machine learning for protein fold recognition and moved on to protein function prediction. His thesis was entitled Machine learning in Bioinformatics: Algorithms, Implementations and Applications. After defending his thesis, he accepted a position at UIC as a Visiting Professor and taught three classes. After his tenure at UIC, Robert accepted a position in Joachim Frank's lab at Columbia as an Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Associate. He currently works on machine learning algorithms for image processing of data collected by cryo-electron microscopy.
