About

I am a tenured researcher at the Intelligent Systems Group (ISG) at the University of the Basque Country. I received a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from the University of Havana and a Ph.D. degree in Informatics from the University of the Basque Country. I have previously worked at Computational Intelligence Group (CIG) in the Technical University of Madrid and the Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics (ICIMAF) of Havana. I have also been a visitor researcher at the Institute Autonomous Intelligent Systems in Bonn and the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra. My main research lines are estimation of distribution algorithms, machine learning methods and computational neuroscience.
