Sam is currently based in the UCL Knowledge Lab, working as the Research Associate on WeDraw, a Horizon 2020 European project to explore the best sensory modality for learning arithmetic and geometrical concepts, based on multisensory interactive technologies and serious games. Her doctoral thesis “Shaping Musical Performance Through Conversation” examined the effect of remote teaching technology on student-tutor interaction during one-to-one instrumental music lessons. Sam has worked with a number of orchestras and music organisations including Aldeburgh Music, Trinity Laban, The London Sinfonietta and the London Symphony Orchestra's Outreach programme, LSO Discovery. Sam was part of the team that developed Steve Reich’s Clapping Music app, to investigate whether a game-based app could stimulate interest in a new music genre and develop rhythmic skills. The associated research and outreach work in schools won the ‘Involve’ award for Public Engagement at the Queen Mary University of London Engagement and Enterprise Awards 2017.
