My main research interests can be condensed into two themes.
The first focuses on interaction, who is working with whom and how interaction contributes to learning. This has included work focusing on pupil interaction in groups, the role of the teacher in relation to group work and interaction taking place in Science and English classrooms. Consideration of pupil and teacher interaction has broadened to encompass outdoor learning, where learning is related to nature and may involve rural contexts.
The second theme involves the development of materials for use in classrooms/real-world situations. This has included observation materials (pertaining to classroom and non-classroom based contexts) and resources aimed to encourage interaction in groups. Most recent work related to this involves the development of an appropriate reading assessment for use in classrooms where learning takes place through the medium of Gaelic.
