A retired executive, Scott Kulicke served Kulicke and Soffa (K&S) of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, as president and chief executive officer for many years. The firm is a global leader in specialized equipment used to assemble semiconductors and other electronic devices. Over his decades-long tenure with the company, Scott Kulicke developed its position as a provider of automatic wire bonders, a market for which K&S controls a 50 percent share. The company's competition is based primarily in East Asia, and K&S operates largely as an Asia-based firm with a Singaporean headquarters and with production bases in China and other countries.
Over his career, Scott Kulicke has involved himself in the wider technological community. For instance, he chaired the Department of Commerce Technical Advisory Committee for Semiconductors, a body dedicated to advising the US Department of Commerce concerning the worldwide semiconductor market. The department wished to know more about the field to properly set US economic and security priorities. Complementing his public service, Mr. Kulicke has held seats on several boards of directors for private technology enterprises.
