Sergio has graduation in Biological Sciences by the Universidade de São Paulo (1977) , Ph.D. in Sciences, Biochemistry by the Instituto de Qúmica / Universidade de São Paulo (1981) , Post doctorate at Institut Pasteur, France (1981-1983) and at New York University (1987-1991). Currently is full professor at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo, member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He has experience in the area of Biochemistry, with emphasis on Molecular Biology of Parasites. His research focuses on the characterization of molecular mechanism related stress control in Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma brucei.
