My research focuses on the structural and functional changes of sediment microbial communities upon anthropogenic contamination, such as heavy metals and excess nutrients. These contaminants potentially influence the biogeochemical cycles of the bacteria in the sediment and thus have an impact on the remediation capability of the ecosystem. I am investigating this through metatranscriptomics approaches, combined with 16S sequencing and biogeochemical flux measurements.
