Research interests

and knowledge.informationMy overall research interest is to advance scientifically sound decision making in natural resource management through robust access to meaningful scientific data

I currently lead an informatics research and development program in the U.S. Geological Survey where we are working on all the various steps necessary to fully integrate our data resources across biological, geological, geographical, hydrological, and social sciences. I have a great passion for making scientific data and information resources as broadly accessible as possible and turning quality scientific data into a citable resource in their own right along with the scientific manuscripts that document their provenance and use. This passion to make scientific research more accessible came about through my background in natural resource management and environmental contaminants investigation. I also have a strong desire to see technology applied as deeply and effectively in government circles as it is in academia and the commercial sector.
