About

Dr. Sotiria Stefanidou is Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (EPPO/ITSAK), Greece and at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her field of expertise is Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Assessment of structures and Seismic Reliability, Fragility Analysis and Assessment in a Multiple Hazard environment, Retrofit measures and prioritization. Currently, she is Teaching Staff in the field of retrofit of existing R/C structures and vulnerability and risk assessment of structures at the Department of Civil Engineering, International Hellenic University and Affiliate Scientific Staff at the MSc program “Earthquake engineering and seismic design of structures”, at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Dr. Stefanidou received her degree in Civil Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds two MSc degrees in Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Design of Structures (AUTh, 2007) and Natural disasters and climate change (Hellenic Open University, Short MSc program, 2019) and received her PhD with Distinction in 2016 in fragility analysis of as-built and retrofitted bridges. She has published more than 30 research papers in international referred journals, international and national referred conferences and book chapters. She has participated in 9 European and National Research Programs with focus on the design, performance, assessment, rehabilitation, vulnerability and retrofit of critical infrastructure and relevant software and tool development. From 2006 until today she is working as freelancer chartered civil engineer, external consultant for design offices and consultancies. She is a member of the Structural Engineering/Consultancy firm Penelis Consulting Engineers SA. and has gained unique experience in consulting by delivering diverse projects in the areas of structural and geotechnical civil engineering. Her experience ranges from conventional structural engineering projects to highly demanding and specialized analysis of high-profile projects across the world, for example Athens (SNFCC) , Mexico, USA and Bahrain. She is member of the Hellenic Section for Earthquake Engineering since 2011 and Board Member of the Hellenic Society of Concrete Research since 2013. She has gained several research awards and travel grants, is an editorial board member of an opensource journal and reviewer at 10 referred scientific journals.
