    About

Sotiria P. Stefanidou was born in Thessaloniki at 31/7/1983. She graduated from the 11th Lyceum of Thessaloniki in 2001 (grade 18.9/20) and succeeded to the Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh.), Greece. She received the Diploma in Civil Engineering in 2006 (grade 7.65/10). She attended the classes of the Division of Structural Engineering and during the last year of studies completed her thesis entitled “Earthquake Resistant Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures for anticipated performance levels, with the aid of inelastic dynamic analysis” at the Laboratory of Concrete and Masonry Structures under the supervision of Prof. A.J. Kappos (grade 10/10). After graduation (2006) she joined the Greek Technical Chamber. In 2006 (Oct) she was admitted in the postgraduate program “Antiseismic Design of Structures” (ASTE) of the Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh.), Greece. She received her MSc Degree with distinction (3rd) in 2007 (grade 8.63/10) and was awarded as MSc Student. In partial fulfillment of her MSc degree she submitted her thesis entitled “Earthquake Resistant Design of 3D Reinforced Concrete Irregular Buildings according to EC8 and a Deformation-Based Seismic Design Method” at the Laboratory of Concrete and Masonry Structures under the supervision of Prof. A.J. Kappos (grade 10/10). During 2010-2016 she worked on her PhD thesis entitled “Structure-specific Fragility Curves for As-Built and Retrofitted Bridges” at the Laboratory of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures, Civil Engineering Department, A.U.Th, under the supervision of Prof. A.J. Kappos and received her PhD degree (grade 10/10 with distinction) in January 2016. During the year 2010-2011 she was awarded as PhD Student and given a scholarship by the Research Committee AUTh. She is member of the Hellenic Section for Earthquake Engineering since 2011 and Hellenic Society of Concrete Research since 2013. From Oct. 2007 until Oct. 2009 she worked as a Civil Engineer (Structural Engineer) in a Structural Engineering Company (Mavrakis A.). She participated to the structural analysis and design of a large number (over 60) of reinforced concrete, steel, composite, timber and masonry structures as well as oil tanks, silos, cranes, masts, retrofit of existing structures ect. From Dec. 2012 until Sep. 2015 she worked on the SNFCC project in Athens (Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center), as a member of the structural engineering team, for Penelis S.A. (structural analysis and design of the Opera and Library building, steelwork analysis and design). From Dec. 2012 until now she is participating on structural projects as a member of the structural engineering team for Penelis S.A. and software development for Penelis Software Ltd. From Jan. 2013 until Jan. 2014 she worked as a researcher in the NAT-SEI-ISO research project (Innovative Design of Bridge Piers on Liquefiable Soils with the use of “natural” seismic isolation) coordinated by prof. G.Boukovalas. From Jan. 2015 until Jan. 2016 she worked as a researcher in the RETIS-RISK research project (Real Time Intercity Seismic Risk) coordinated by prof. A.J.Kappos. Her research interests are: Earthquake Resistance Analysis and Design of Structures and Bridges, Inelastic Dynamic (and Equivalent Static) Analysis Methods, Section Analysis, Performance and Displacement-Based Design, Assessment of Seismic Performance and Fragility Curves, Retrofit and Isolation Methods, Soil-Structure-Interaction, Assessment of Transportation Networks, ect.
