I have experience analyzing complex problems and have implemented new statistical and machine learning techniques for deriving insights from large amounts of data. My work is at the intersection of computer science and biological systems – I use tools from computer science to study biological systems and take inspiration from biological systems to design more efficient human-engineered systems. I use machine learning techniques to infer biologically meaningful information from noisy experimental data collected under different experimental conditions. My work also involves taking inspiration from the immune system and suggests architectures for human-engineered distributed systems with faster search and response characteristics. The tools of my trade are mathematical models using spatially explicit agent-based models and computationally tractable differential equation models. I like to work closely with scientists from other domains, especially experimentalists. My work has been recognized with a University of New Mexico Student Award for Innovation in Informatics in 2010. I take pride in writing industrial-strength software, which I attributes to years of working in industry and skills honed in academia. As of July 2015, I was ranked worldwide within the top 200 on MATLAB Central (an online repository for Matlab code contributed by users all over the world). I am on the editorial board for the Journal of Communications Engineering and Networks and on the programme committee of the International Conference on Artificial Immune Systems.
