About

PhD Student with the Autism Research Group, City University Supervisors: Prof. D. Bowler & Dr. S. Gaigg Research Interests and Specialism: Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Memory, Metacognition, Neuropsychology Background: I began work with autism and metamemory during my undergraduate dissertation, looking at the accuracy of performance judgments in autistic children for word list and temporal order memory tasks. I extended this work into my MSc by investigating memory judgment accuracy in adults diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Currently, I am aiming to develop this area through a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dermot Bowler and Dr. Sebastian Gaigg at City University. My present research focuses upon the accuracy of personal judgments for memory through the disparity between predicted and actual performance. More specifically, I am keen to explore whether autistic individuals are aware of the memory disturbances that are reliably reported in the literature, particularly regarding those that require self-awareness and autonoetics. Awareness of these deficits is assessed through a metamemory framework by examining how ASD individuals monitor and control their cognitions for different types of task. Exploring these issues is central to supporting the autonomy of the autistic learner during development. I have also had experience with autism through familial diagnoses and have worked as an intensive applied-behavioural-analysis therapist for a severely affected adolescent with low-functioning autism.
